Lewis Hamilton’s supremacy in F1
Putting Hamilton’s 100+ victories into perspective.
The rate at which he reached this milestone is really amazing but it was obviously on the expected lines. When he won his 100th race in Russian Grand Prix in Sochi, he cemented his legacy as the most successful driver in the history of Formula One.
He was already a record-holder with the most victories after breaking Michael Schumacher’s mark of 91 in Portugal in October 2020, but after reaching this milestone, he has raised the bar for the younger generations.
He described the moment after winning the 100th F1 race as “magical”.
“I could only ever have dreamed of still being here and having this opportunity to win these races and get to drive against such phenomenal talent this late in my career.
“To continue to build with Mercedes, of which I’m so proud of everything we’ve done, not only on track but also off and yeah, this is just a special moment for everyone that has been a part of it. I’ve had the most incredible team.”
He was always a Star
Lewis Hamilton started his journey towards this milestone when he was just eight years old. His first win at the age of 10 at the British Kart Championship showed to the world that he holds the potential to do big. Around the same time, he approached McLaren's boss Ross Dennis and told him “I want to race for you one day … I want to race for McLaren.”
Three years later his words came true and he was signed to the Young Driver’s School, where he was given all the support that he needed to train.
In 2007, Lewis joined the McLaren team and it is from this point that he started scripting the story for his forthcoming 100+wins.
“Wow… 100! It’s taken a long time and I wasn’t even sure the 100th would come!” Hamilton said after achieving this remarkable milestone on the Russian circuit.
Currently leading with 103 pole positions, still he feels that he has a lot to achieve, and even at the age of 36, he is giving tough competition to the youngsters. For any F1 driver, 100 victories would just end any debate about his dominance and supremacy in this sport but for Hamilton, it’s just the beginning.
