Nick Kyrgios- “I am proud of who I am today. I help people, I try to be better each day.”

Nick Kyrgios shares inspiring words from his life on how to overcome setbacks in life and become a better version of yourself.

Nick Kyrgios has shown a lot of maturity in his social and professional life.

Nick Kyrgios has always been open about his views regarding the mental health and the life of a professional athlete. In the past, Nick has spoken about his struggle with depression which he says left him in a “lonely, dark place”. He has come a long way since then. In a recent interview with the TopCourt Nick spoke on the psychological challenges that a professional athlete has to deal with.

The Australian in this interview opens up about how until now he used to constantly try to live up to other people’s expectations and that made him an unhappy individual. When you constantly compare yourself with others and try to live up to others' expectations, any minor upset in life can take a heavy toll on you. Nick goes on to say that the only person that he reflects on now is himself and no one else. You are the master of your life, so dictate your own terms.

When I was losing matches, or when I was not being the person that I thought I should be, it was letting so many people down. And then I just stopped worrying about what they thought. If I could just look myself in the mirror and say, look, I’m proud of who I am today. I help people, I try to be better each day, “ he explained.

If you are in pursuit of your dreams, you are bound to face many hurdles in life and these hurdles are not restricted to just professional tennis players but to each individual, even kids.

“For kids and people, it doesn’t have to be tennis players. I feel like people in general that have this sort of dream or want to do something and you get told you’re not good enough. That was actually one of the toughest things for me,” he pointed out.

With all the struggles that the six-time ATP tour champion has faced, he feels proud of what he has achieved in his tennis career. He is confident that with this attitude he can climb higher.

“You know, the amount of people that get to be professional athletes in the world is so slim, and I am proud of what I’ve achieved, “ said Kyrgios.

Nick says that there is no single path to achieve your dream. You just have to put your heart and soul, and you will surely get it.

“You know, there’s no one straight line way to get to whatever you want to call it, “making it” or getting to the top of your sport, “ said Kyrgios.
